The I Do’s and the I Don’ts
It’s always fun to look at Hollywood for inspiration, especially when it comes to wedding dresses. Since many of these celebrities have unlimited budgets, their creativity and taste really come through. Although that’s not always for the best. Here are some of the best and worst wedding dresses that adorned the red carpet.
1. Anne Hathaway
Anne has always been one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, known for her timeless elegance and grace. Her wedding dress, designed by Valentino, further solidified her standing as a classy bride. She married Adam Shulman in 2012 and wore a slightly pink-tinted dress with a bold off-the-shoulder moment.
2. Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra was a famous Bollywood actress who stepped into the world of Hollywood and found a quick connection with Nick Jonas. To set off their 2018 wedding, the Indian actress came adorned in a Ralph Lauren dress that had beautiful scalloped sleeves and a gown that was embroidered by hand.
3. Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek undoubtedly turned heads in 2009 when she married Francois-Henri Pinault dressed in a Balenciaga gown. Points of interest included the deep V-neck, studded bodice, and the simple elegance of her updo and long veil.
4. Emmy Rossum
Emmy Rossum is known for her gentle features and doe-like eyes, and she stunned crowds in her 2017 wedding. Emmy came out in a stunning dress designed by Carolina Herrera, which featured an off-shoulder sleeve and a floor-sweeping train that made her look like a princess out of a fairytale.
5. Sofia Vergara
Sofia Vergara rose to fame for her breakout role in Modern Family and has since stunned Hollywood with her beauty. She got married in 2015 to Joe Manganiello wearing a beautiful Zuhair Murad piece. This sweeping dress was stunning and featured a flattering bodice and plenty of embroidery.
6. Keira Knightley
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful English actresses out there, Keira Knightley married James Righton in 2013 wearing a beautiful Chanel dress. This dress was quite a trendy moment though, as it was knee-length and a grayish color that offered a bohemian and alternative take on bridal couture.
7. Meghan Markle
No one does it like the royals, and Meghan Markle practically reinvented the wheel with her elegant and timeless look. Designed by Givenchy, she wore this dress for her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. The simplistic pure-white dress included a boat neck and a long veil that flowed down from her crown.
8. Kim Kardashian
Say what you will about Kim Kardashian, but the woman can put together a look. During her wedding to Kanye West in 2014, she wore a custom dress created by Givenchy. The dress featured a sultry mermaid silhouette as well as feminine lace sleeves that perfectly balanced each other.
9. Sophie Turner
There must be something about those Jonas Brothers, because Sophie Turner also pleasantly surprised crowds when she appeared at her 2019 wedding dressed in a Louis Vuitton gown. The dress had long sleeves, a plunging neckline, and a beautiful cinched waist that perfectly complemented the actress.
10. Kate Middleton
The royal family has always set a bar when it comes to poshness and fashion. To that end, Kate partnered with Alexander McQueen and donned her dress at her royal wedding to Prince William in 2011. The dress was fairly modest and had beautiful sheer lace sleeves that complemented the embroidery on the traditional veil.
Now that we have discussed some of the best celebrity wedding dresses, here are some that ended up leaving more than a few people with cold feet.
1. Hailey Bieber
At first glance, Hailey Bieber’s dress looks absolutely stunning. Created by Virgil Abloh, this dress had lace tulle and a corset bodice that flattered her features. It’s only when you see the words inscribed on the bottom of the veil that you realize it’s a bit tacky.
2. Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson has been quite the beauty icon throughout her career. But she definitely shocked the world when she decided to get married in 2006 wearing nothing more than a white bikini. That’s pretty in character though.
3. Sarah Jessica Parker
Unfortunately, Sarah Jessica Parker let her nerves get to her when she married Matthew Broderick in 1997. She admits she felt a bit anxious about wearing white and treated her wedding dress like a regular party gown—a black one at that.
4. Celine Dion
On the other hand, Celine Dion was anything but nervous when she showed up to her wedding with a 20-foot train. Considered one of the most dramatic dresses out there, she wore a crowned headpiece and looked like something out of a princess movie. Maybe it was a bit too much.
5. Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman’s dress was kind of all over the place. The dress had a green lining and included a large frilly skirt, puffy sleeves, and a slit for some reason. The fact that she wore it with black shoes was also a strange choice.
6. Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham is often known for her posh and elegant looks, but her wedding dress might have been a bit too much. The gown was created by Vera Wang but was far too maximalist. It’s kind of odd considering how minimalistic and stylish the singer usually is.
7. Gwen Stefani
For some reason, plenty of brides enjoy avoiding the white look. It is a bit outdated, and Gwen Stefani clearly felt the same when she showed up in a pink-bottomed Christian Dior dress. It looks like a typical wedding dress at first, but then the white turns into bright pink near the bottom half of the skirt.
8. Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey always enjoyed a dramatic and bold look, and her wedding dress lived up to that as it was one of the most voluminous outfits to grace the venue. It was designed by Vera Wang and was quite the statement maker.
9. Pink
With a name like Pink, you might expect the singer to show up in a pink dress. In actuality, she surprised people when she showed up with a massive black bow in her hair and over her dress. It was a weird clash of colors, but whatever floats her boat.
10. Jada Pinkett Smith
During her wedding to Will Smith, Jada just looked off. From the strange material of the dress to the weird way it hugged her body, it looked almost sweater-like. But it was undoubtedly a creative dress, and we have to give her credit for that.
