Wedding traditions vary globally; many bridal looks are distinguished by their nation. From symbolic colors to authentic garments, this is what traditional brides are wearing around the world:

1. Nigeria

Since Nigeria has communities of diverse ethnicities, there are several different bridal traditions. The Yoruba community is one with a distinctive look, where brides wear outfits made from woven fabric known as Aso Oke. The vibrant ensemble is made up of five matching pieces consisting of a blouse, waist wrap, shawl, scarf, and veil.

2. Malaysia

Brides truly dress like royalty on their wedding day. Upon their heads they adorn a sparkling crown, with layers of a tudung or a hijab, and a selendang shawl underneath. In complimentary colors and patterns, brides wear a sarong and a long-sleeve blouse with decorative details.

3. Pakistan

In Pakistan, the traditional bridal attire is dazzling from head to toe. Brides look enchanting dressed in sheer floor-length veils, wide flowing pants or skirts, and a gharara, a colorful tunic. The whole ensemble is a colorful display with jeweled accents and ornate jewelry.

4. Korea

Traditional Korean brides adorn a lavish style of dress known as a Hanbok. The look is ancient and decorative, dating back thousands of years. Hanboks are customized for weddings and brides choose various colors. An elaborate headpiece decorates their hair which is often in an updo.

The bride and groom traditionally wear an outfit called Del on their wedding day. The groom's Del is typically a dark shade while the bride stands out in brighter hues. Silk and cotton are common fabrics used with colorful and decorative details. Elaborate headpieces are worn made from various materials like beads, stones, and fabrics.

6. India

The traditional bridal look echos the vibrancy of an Indian wedding. A lehenga or saree wedding dress is a beautiful sight of bright bold colors and intricate jeweled and embroidered details. Brides typically wear lots of jewelry including stacked bangles, glittering necklaces, earrings, and head jewlery made from gemstones, toe rings, an anklet, and a nose ring.

7. Japan

With several religions across the nation, each has their own traditional attire. One of Japan's popular nuptial styles is known as a Shinto wedding where the bride wears a white ensemble called a shiromuku. All in white, the shiromuku includes a kimono, obi sash, head covering like a wataboshi, and sandals.

8. Indonesia

The Javanese in Indonesia have a three-part traditional wedding. On the first day, the bride's family bathes her in scented water and day two has her inside with friends and family in the evening. On the third day, the bride is wed in a lavish outfit consisting of an ornate batik cloth, blouse, and waist wrap.

9. Ghana

Ghanian brides are queens glowing in gold. Hues of yellow and gold are radiant in their traditional dresses made from kente cloth. In ancient times, kings wore kente and the bright fabric was later adapted for special occasions like weddings.

10. China

Chinese brides wear the color red which represents happiness, life, and the deterrent of evil. Chinese wedding dresses typically display bold shades of red with golden accents and patterns. Many brides in the north wear a red frock called a Qipao and brides in the south tend to wear a two-piece Qungua.

11. Norway

These days, most brides in Norway dress similar to North Americans with white dresses however, some brides like to stick to old traditions. A classic bride wears a Norwegian bunad which is a colorful dress styled with a belt, buckles, jeweled accents, and floral motifs.

12. Guatemala

There are two distinct features a bride traditionally boasts on her wedding day in Guatemala. First, it's believed that the longer the veil, the happier her and her husband will be together in marriage. Second, instead of a dress, brides usually wear a flower-embroidered blouse and skirt known as a Patzun Huipil.

13. Morocco

Brides endure multi-day traditions leading up to their wedding, all of which they wear different variations of colorful takchitas, with white being worn on the big day. A takchita can comprise of up to five pieces with a tahtia, a dress, and a fouquia or dfina, an overdress with button closures and elaborate embroidery.

14. Vietnam

Vietnamese brides traditionally wear an elegant ensemble known as an ao dai. The wedding look boasts a five-piece outfit including a tunic with long-sleeves and side slits that show off the colorful loose pants layered underneath. The most distinguished part of the wedding style is the circular headdress called a Dam Hoi.

15. Peru

Color is key for a traditional Peruvian bride who will often adorn an eye-catching ensemble. A pollera is a multi-layered woolen skirt a classic bride will wear. The voluminous outfit is complete with a wide-brimmed hat embellished with cloth tassels and shiny materials and a special poncho is made for them to wear on their wedding day.

16. Mexico

On special occasions, like a wedding, women tend to wear a traditional garment known as a Mexican Huipil, similar to a Guatemalan bride. The huipil is typically made from an airy linen or cotton fabric embellished with delicate embroidery, gemstones, and beads. The bodice is bright and colorful, often displaying patterns of florals.

17. Scotland

Nowadays, Scottish brides typically wear a white dress and the groom boasts the old-timely look with a tartan plaid kilt.
